Journey to San Cosme

The members of the ASTROSIL club, with fathers, mothers, grandmothers, brothers and sisters made a trip to the twon of San Cosme y Damián where one of the largest telescopes in Paraguay is found. They were joined by the teachers: Leticia Ruiz Díaz, Silvia Estévez and Mercedes Latourrette.

After arrival, the group went to the ruins of San Cosme where they had a guided tour to the Church and knew its sun clock which still works perfectly well. Then they went to the San Buenaventura Suárez observatory where they learned about constellations in the planetarium and about the planets in the multimedia room.

They were also able to make a visit to the dunes of the area and to the hidroelectric plant of Yacyretá being guided through the museum and then to the dam including the energy central with the 20 turbines, locks, water dams and the fish-transfer system.

Spaces like AstroSIL club are promoted by the School, as they allow the strengthening of one of our main pillars, the Scientific Technical Education. We hope our young astronomers learn more every day about the universe and its wonders.
