Bee Propolis as Potential Bioindicators of Heavy Metal Contamination

As part of the Science Project "Bee Propolis as Potential Bioindicators of Heavy Metal Contamination" the 8th Grade A, B, and C students have developed a biosensor of metal airborne contaminants in air with the use of bee propolis.

The main objective of this work is to compare the levels of lead contamination in bee propolis biosensors around the area of San Ignacio de Loyola School.

The samples were exposed for four weeks in different areas of the school, and once removed, they were sent to the Multidisciplinary Center of Technological Research CEMIT at the National University of Asuncion, where they will be analyzed. To enrich their experience and knowledge, students in the three sections conducted a field visit to the laboratories of CEMIT to learn procedures and techniques used to obtain the results.

We are proud to provide our students, by teaching Science through projects, the ability to learn using the scientific method and develop language skills in the English language through oral defenses, where students present the results and conclusions of their projects.
